Reducing our Footprint

An Ode to our new French-door Bottom Freezer Fridge!

An ode to our new fridge –

Oh new fridge

Oh new fridge
how I love thee
You have french doors
and relieve my melancholy

You’re bottom freezer
has an ice maker
to make some ice
to put in my martini shaker

Oh new fridge
that’s energy star rated
You’ll save us money
which makes me elated

Now we can put milk jugs into your doors
or even a six-pack of Sleemans or Coors

An ode to our new fridge

An ode to the future

An ode to closing the door
without shelves falling over

Our fridge

LG claims their bottom-mount fridges use 20% less energy than traditional refrigerators. Our model uses only 466 kWh of energy, or $31.69, per year. I really don’t know how that compares to our old one but it sounds good!

Your kitchen can be a big eater of energy. A typical 19 cubic foot non-ENERGY STAR top-freezer refrigerator runs at 80 watts, while an average stovetop operates at 1,600 watts while in cook mode. “One fridge is probably 500 to 700 kWh per year and a range is approximately 700-1000 kWh per year, depending how much cooking you do. Combined, that works out to $116 using the low-end charge rate.”

However, many homes have a second fridge and/or freezer — so double-up on that cost

One of my favorite perks is that I will no longer have to bend over to see what’s on the top shelf.

The price was higher than I wanted to pay so we found a way to lower it. First we found the fridge we wanted at Home Depot. Then we found it at a lower price at the Brick. The Home Depot price matched it and gave us an additional 10% off. Then we used our Home Depot card to pay because they had a deal – buy $450 or more worth of products and get 10% off if you use the card. We had the cash so we went home and paid it right off. Now that’s how to make a deal! A lower price and then over 20% off that. Not bad for a little internet searching.

Our new fridge is super cool!
