Zero-Waste Fast Food?

Zero-Waste Fast Food? Chevron’s Town Pantry

It’s zero-waste Slurpee time again! On Mother’s Day the whole family walked to our neighborhood Chevron for a Frozen Cold treat. We came prepared with our own cups and a Rubbermaid container for a Bread Garden treat for me. My cup was completely waste free because I have a permanent straw but we did end up with 3 disposable straws. One got lost in my oldest son’s drink before we left so he needed a second. The toddler doesn’t drink pop so he didn’t have one. He did have some milk when we got home. I got a scone because I wanted one. What? Do I need a reason? It was delicious. We didn’t ask permission. We just filled up. At the till the cashier charged us for refills and the whole works cost just over $5. Another reason to bring your own cup for drinks!

I plan to buy two permanent straws from Starbucks for the other cups.

Also, I might buy a few smaller Starbucks cold cups for the kids and a domed lid for mine. The straws don’t fall out and it might help them to stay hydrated this summer.Okay, I know they are plastic but I will wash them by hand and they are BPA free.

They are boys and they drop things. A lot.

Former Education Specialist for a corporation, I have now taken a step back to spend time with my family and work closer to home. Hoping to reduce our waste through refusing, reducing and reusing so that we will not have to recycle as much. Also, I love to explore zero-waste fast food and take pictures of my sucesses. I'm a fan of British comedies like Red Dwarf and Black Adder, Kevin Smith and his movies, Asian food, documentaries, biographies and going to Las Vegas on vacation. If someone told me I could only listen to the Beatles for the rest of my life I would die happy.

  1. I didn’t even know those existed. Hey, if you can use them forever….I think that sounds good! Better than getting a new one every time!
