Zero-Waste Fast Food? The Woodland Zoo

We found almost-zero waste at the Woodland Zoo. Not a place I thought we’d be able to get a zero-waste meal. All meals come on real plates. Our meals were delicious! The only thing that was not available in zero-waste was the pop. They do not have lids or straws though because it can endanger the animals. I would love to see them add real glasses to the mix. They have a great condiment section that blows Ikea out of the water. Not only was there ketchup, mustard and mayo but also bbq sauce and ranch dressing. So instead of putting the various things in little paper cups I just squirted them right on my plate. I also added some relish and a few pickle slices that they had too.The zoo has real cutlery. They really care about the environment. They have a bunch of eco-initatives including sourcing local food producers. We even rode their antique carousel after lunch. It has it’s own solar panel panels.

Next time we go to the zoo we will bring our own cups.

About stephanieough

Wife, mom, concerned citizen of the earth. Striving towards intentional living rather than blindly following. Former Education Specialist for a corporation, I have now taken a step back to spend time with my family and work closer to home. Hoping to reduce our waste through refusing, reducing and reusing so that we will not have to recycle as much. Also, I love to explore zero-waste fast food and take pictures of my sucesses. I'm a fan of British comedies like Red Dwarf and Black Adder, Kevin Smith and his movies, Asian food, documentaries, biographies and going to Las Vegas on vacation. If someone told me I could only listen to the Beatles for the rest of my life I would die happy.
