De-cluttering

Donate, donate and give away.

After months of offering our tube tv on Facebook with no bites I finally put in on Craigslist. Tons of responses came and I left a message to someone to pick it up. Over the last four months it moved from on top of our bedroom dresser to the bedroom floor. Then I dragged it into the hallway when someone promised to pick it up then called hours later to tell me she didn’t need it anymore. My dh put it outside yesterday morning for a hopeful pickup. It was joyful coming home hours later to see it missing from our front door!  We also had Big Brothers pick up stuff yesterday. Some other boxes are waiting to be picked up for a refugee family with 8-10 kids, one of which has many special needs. I’d rather give to them then to Big Brothers but they don’t need the baby stuff I’m giving to BB. I keep adding to the boxes everyday plus my mom filled a Rubbermaid storage box with bedding, clothes and other household goods for this family. Just like giving to the food bank at Christmas, giving to a family in need feels so much better than receiving.

On another topic, Teresan Gas came to put a smart meter on our house. Apparently we will be able to see our up to the moment gas usage from our smart phones or computers in the near future. Very exciting! Last month our utility usage was the same as last year but in October we reduced our electricity usage by over a third. Progress in the right direction.

About stephanieough

Wife, mom, concerned citizen of the earth. Striving towards intentional living rather than blindly following. Former Education Specialist for a corporation, I have now taken a step back to spend time with my family and work closer to home. Hoping to reduce our waste through refusing, reducing and reusing so that we will not have to recycle as much. Also, I love to explore zero-waste fast food and take pictures of my sucesses. I'm a fan of British comedies like Red Dwarf and Black Adder, Kevin Smith and his movies, Asian food, documentaries, biographies and going to Las Vegas on vacation. If someone told me I could only listen to the Beatles for the rest of my life I would die happy.
