You can find a lot of stuff in our home but plastic wrap is not one of them. When we need to store food we put it in our Rubbermaid containers. The one exception is my son’s school lunch sandwiches. I just put them loose in his lunch box. No waste. I get that it’s a popular product but it did not “make the cut” for us.
Between the wastefulness of it and the potential of leaching we did decided not to buy it anymore. Sometimes I catch myself thinking that it would be handy here and there but there is always another alternative.
Cling wrap doesn’t really perform well enough for me to justify it. Briefly we tried Glad Press n’ Seal and liked it but I’m still not tempted. Actually we don’t even buy Ziploc bags anymore. Sure they are handy but again I just use my Rubbermaids. We could use an alternative for holding lunchtime snacks though. We are considering buying some reusable sandwich bags online. They can be washed in the dishwasher and reused many times. Maybe they would be used to hold fruit gummies or something like that. I do really like the cute skulls and crossbones. The boys would probably like them too. Some reusable sandwich bags open up to be used as a place mat.
Almost everyone in North America has a drawer full of food wrap. Between Saran Wrap, aluminum foil, wax paper and parchment it’s hard to think through what is right for each individual household. For us we feel fewer options are better.
