Here’s a message I sent Montana’s through their website on Monday. I’m still waiting for a reply and will post it when and if it does arrive.
We really enjoyed our meal today at Montana’s. The food was so delicious that we chose to get the rest packed up to take home and eat later. I just wanted to say that it was disappointing when the food came back in styrofoam containers. Kelsey’s is a large restaurant organization that can make an influence on the environment. Styrofoam (as you probably already know) is not biodegradable. There are many options available to restaurants that are compostable or recyclable including cardboard containers. Please consider this e-mail when making your next to-go container purchase for your many locations and brands.
Some more info on styrofoam take-out containers is in this Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foam_take-out_container. Easily found by a quick google search are many alternatives to styrofoam including this company that provides their product to Starbucks and Quiznos –http://www.mrtakeoutbags.com/store/boxes-containers.html.
I plan on sending e-mails more often as a way of getting my point across to businesses. Taking home extra food from restaurants can be an environmentally wise decision. In the future, I will be implementing my new plan of attack for any remaining restaurant food. Next time you are dining at a restaurant, look over at the couple sitting across from you. If the woman is dishing her leftovers into Rubbermaid containers – good chance it’ll be me.
