De-cluttering

Random things found on my garage floor.

My garage is still a disaster. Things were moved into the middle in order to paint it back in February. It’s July and this is what it looked like last week. Half done. Still a mess. Progress is happening now though. We borrowed a step-ladder and got a paint can re-shaken. The painting is close to being complete now. Hopefully by next week I’ll be done all the last bits and pieces. Some areas are done now so I started to move the mess in the middle so people can actually walk in the garage again (kinda). When sweeping up a small area of the garage I came across some random stuff.

Some of the random things I found on the garage floor …

  •  2008 receipt for a Sears gift card probably for a wedding gift
  •  2009 Urban Barn receipt for an Aqua Buddha bought for a birthday present
  •  2009 junk mail
  •  two empty seed packages
  •  2009 McDonald’s receipt
  • instructions to make hot chocolate for two that used to be attached to a present
  • 1998 membership card for a youth group I belonged to
  • 2001 Joey Tomato’s receipt (it’s been closed for almost that long)
  • 2008 local casino voucher worth (at the time) $17.54 and another for .25
  • 2008 movie ticket for the 7:25 showing of Pineapple Express
  • Total Rewards lanyard (from Las Vegas)
  • dust cover for a Nora Roberts book I no longer own
  • two non winning scratch and wins
  • a torn end of an envelope

I only share this information to remind myself not to create this mess again. All the paper items found will be recycled except the membership card. The rest will need to be thrown away or stored properly. After the garage is all painted I will be moving on to some real de-cluttering. I don’t know how many storage boxes we have in there but I know it’s too many. This photo is what the area I found all the old receipts looks like now. Note the overflowing storage bin on the right and the two fans we haven’t needed yet this summer because it’s been so cold in BC. So what do you think about the blue?

Former Education Specialist for a corporation, I have now taken a step back to spend time with my family and work closer to home. Hoping to reduce our waste through refusing, reducing and reusing so that we will not have to recycle as much. Also, I love to explore zero-waste fast food and take pictures of my sucesses. I'm a fan of British comedies like Red Dwarf and Black Adder, Kevin Smith and his movies, Asian food, documentaries, biographies and going to Las Vegas on vacation. If someone told me I could only listen to the Beatles for the rest of my life I would die happy.
