I would love to tell you that this what our collection of pasta and rice looks like. It would be even better if there were only one or two pasta choices and one rice (or other grain) choice. People don’t really need lots of pasta and grain options available in their kitchen. If we ran out we would easily be able to pick up some more at the grocery store.
This is our reality though.
Four rice options plus nine pasta options = Insanity.
You’d think we had ten children or something! In my defense we did use up the jar on the right hand side tonight so now we are down to eight pasta choices. They say variety is the spice of life but this is ridiculous. My goal is to whittle down our store of pasta and rice until we just have what’s in the first picture (or less because if you notice two of the pastas are the same except one is multi-grain and the other is whole-wheat). In the future, I plan on buying all of our pasta in the bulk bins to save on packaging waste.
Does everyone’s pasta and rice collection look like this?
I have the same issue going on in my kitchen and it realy does make for a lot of clutter. We are going on vacation in about four weeks so I have decided to plan all of our meals, between now and then, around what I have on hand and only fill in with stuff that we really need from the supermarket. There will be lots of rice and pasta in our near future!
I think the meal planning around the extra ingredients is a great idea! I’m going to try to make at least two meals of rice or pasta each week until it’s under control. Thank you for your comments 🙂
